At a recent Sunday service, I had the experience of hearing Gini Lohmann Bauman speak on the subject of Darfur. Admittedly, I am one of those individuals that goes through life with a list of things to do. Many of the things going on in the world do not catch my attention which is not an uncommon scenario for many individuals. But, while listening to Gini speak on the subject of Darfur and recalling some of the information that has been in the news about the subject, the realization of what is happening there is truly horrifying and something which needs to be brought to light. Her speech inspired me to put this up in an effort to help build awareness of the terrible things taking place in Sudan.
Here are the words to the hymn that were sung that Sunday, November 19, 2006:
For the Healing of the Nations
For the healing of the nations, God, we pray with one accord;
for a just and equal sharing of the things that earth affords;
to a life of love in action help us rise and pledge our word.
Lead us forward into freedom; from despair your world release,
that, redeemed from war and hatred, all may come and go in peace;
Show us how through care and goodness fear will die and hope increase.
All that kills abundant living, let it from the earth be banned;
pride of staus, race, or schooling, dogmas that obscure your plan.
In our common quest for justice may we hallow life's brief span.
You, Creator God, have written your great name on human kind;
for our growing in your likeness bring the life of Christ to mind,
That by our response and service earth its destiny may find.
